Cheers Royce!

Royce: what's the book?

Käte: the new one?  the first one?

Royce: the new one

Käte: funny enough... it's about what you want to do with your life. (…)i lost the ability to have fun.i'm usually working my ass of so i don't have time to have fun. and when there is time i get nervous because there's nothing i HAVE to do and then i can't enjoy myself. i'm a machine.

Royce: i think it's great to be a machine. it's a great skill.

Käte: you are less controlled than me. you might get less stuff done but you also experience things in a different way. that i think is more enjoyable. free.

Royce: you don't feel free?

Käte: no. i don't. i'm trapping myself. most of it is fear. but mastering your fears is the hardest thing to do.

Royce: i'm afraid of heaps of stuff. but it manifests in not trying a lot of things. sort of the opposite of you

Käte: no, it's exactly the same with me. i would love to just try to life elsewhere again but if i fail, how will i cope when i get back? will i find work?

Royce: i worry about all that stuff too

Käte: i will be 30 next year. what about kids and family? i don't have that much time left. so if i wanted to try something new i have to do it now. but building a new life AND a family, how's that supposed to work?

Royce: eventually it does though

Käte: bloody optimism.

Royce: hey, i'll let you in on a secret which you can believe or not but being in your mid to late 20s sucks. you feel all kinds of pressure like "am i working hard enough" and "am i having enough fun". you're getting pulled in different directions and it may sound wacky but once you get into your thirties you don't care as much. i'm way happier now that i'm 32

Käte: you never get a feeling of panic when asking yourself if something is missing?

Royce: all those things i don't have yet are things i look forward to getting in the future but i'm not very ambitious. i think you can have a family and all that other stuff without being super successful

Käte: it's not always just about the things you want to have. it's about experinces and places and feeling and memories. the whole concept of life is driving me mad sometimes. it's so limited. i don't know if that's ambition. or just stupidity. maybe i should just deal with  the fact that i can't do and see and feel it all in a lifetime.

Royce: i don't know katarina. i don't have the same urges. i'd be happy to go fishing every now and again and have friends to start bands with that never go anywhere. but if you feel like you want to be out there doing stuff and experiencing life to the full, maybe you should go with it. you can always write. and not just books. and you can do that anywhere.

Cheers, Royce!
